IHC suspends 2-day remand of Matiullah Jan

ISLAMABAD: IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir on Friday (29th Nov, 2024) suspended the 2-day physical remand of senior journalist Matiullah Jan who was arrested by Police here a day earlier in narcotics and terrorism cases.

According to details, Matiullah Jan had been reporting about the 24th November so-called Last-Call of Imran Khan. He was arrested and produced before Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra who (denying a 30-day custody request) remanded him to police custody for two days.

Journalists’ trade unions, terming terrorism and narcotics case against senior journalist Matiullah Jan as ridiculous, demanded his immediate release on 28th November, 2024. Prime Minister’s Adviser, Rana Sanaullah rejected the First Information Report against Matiullah Jan as a concocted and fabricated story.

Sanaullah held that such stories were often fabricated when needed: “They’ve been made against us, and they were made against me as well”. Pointing towards the Inspector General of Islamabad Police he said that the only thing that should be done was that those who made that fake story should be punished and the victim should be released.
