ISLAMABAD: While PTI workers are marching towards Capital under the leadership of CM KP, Police nabbed sisters of Imran Khan (Aleema & Uzma), from D-Chowk and took them to the Secretariat PS here on Friday (4th October, 2024).

The two were at D-Chowk to receive the PTI workers and stage a protest there. As usual entry and exit points have been sealed by means of shipping containers and mobile networks/internet services have been suspended both in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

IG Police of Islamabad stated: “Proceedings are under way wherever there are attempts to hurt police or damage property. Till now, there have been over 30 arrests.

We are updating the exact numbers. It is very clear that we have a clear message that we will not allow the law to be taken into own hands.”

Meanwhile, under Constitution’s Article 245 the government had approved deployment of troops here from 5th to 17th October, 2024 to make sure that SCO’s 23rd rendezvous of Heads of Governments happens peacefully.

The Interior Ministry notification informed that the troops would remain in the Islamabad from 5th till 17th day of October: “Federal Government, in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 245 of Constitution, 1973 and under Sections 4 & 5 of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, is pleased to authorize deployment of requisite strength of Pakistan Army in aid of civil power from 5th to 17th October, 2024, in ICT.”

According to the notification, troops had been called in “for maintaining law and order situation with respect to 23rd meeting of SCO Council of Heads of Government and visits of VVIP delegations for the said meeting”.

PTI maintained that the VVIPs from democratic countries would be happy to observe that Pakistan allowed political parties to protest as their right.
