India to import oil from a mix of sources

NEW DELHI: Foreign Secretary of India Vikram Misri, while talking to journalists here on Monday (9th Feb, 2026), has stated: “India’s priority is to safeguard the interests of its consumers through an energy policy driven by adequate availability, fair pricing, and reliability of supply!”

Bewildered by the Trumpian caprices, India had decided to maintain multiple sources of energy supply and diversify them when needed. It may be recalled that a week ago President Donald Trump had claimed that New Delhi had committed to stop importing Russian oil directly or indirectly. He asserted that national interests of India guided both the govt and energy companies. He held that his country was neither dependent on any single source for crude oil nor did it intend to be. India, Misri maintained, will continue to import from a mix of sources depending on objective market conditions.

Undaunted by the continuous blows of Trumpian Tariffs, China agreed with India on 19th Aug, 2025 to resume direct flights (that were terminated between the two countries during COVID days following the 2020 border clash). It may be recalled that after the announcement of Chinese retaliatory tariffs, Trump had threatened to impose an extra 50% tariff on China (that vowed to fight to the end against the additional levies). Savants at the helm of affairs noted that the skirmishes could bring down both economies.

In order to further ameliorate their relationship, in response to Trump’s unpredictable foreign policies, the two neighbouring countries had staged a series of high-level bilateral visits and resultantly are all set to step up trade and investment flows. Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar maintained that peace on Indo-China borders was pertinent in order to nurture positive momentum in bilateral relationship.

“This (discussing border issues) is very important because the basis for any positive momentum in our ties is the ability to jointly maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas.” FM of India who visited China last July, further suggested that both neighbours should pull back their forces that converged along the disputed border since 2020. It is pertinent to mention here that the duo plan to recommence trade that was discontinued five years ago.
