CALIFORNIA: Former Chief Executive of Intel Corporation Andy Grove dies at the age of 79.
Intel says Grove was an instrumental in building Intel into the world’s largest chip company during his 37-year career, suffered from Parkinson’s disease. He also suffered from prostate cancer in the mid-1990s.
Praising Grove’s efforts for Intel, the present CEO Brian Krzanich says: “Andy made the impossible happen, time and again, and inspired generations of technologists, entrepreneurs, and business leaders.”
“I don’t think Intel would have been Intel as we know it, and therefore, the U.S. chip industry would not have been what it is” without Grove,” said Krzanich.
Intel Chairman Andy Bryant. held: “Andy approached corporate strategy and leadership in ways that continue to influence prominent thinkers and companies around the world” .
During his leadership sales of the corporation not only rose from $2 billion to $26 billion in 13 years but he also endowed the corporation with the slogan of “Intel Inside”.
Grove was named Intel’s president in 1979, took the chief executive job in 1987 and in 1997 added the chairmanship to his duties.
