BEIRUT: Following fourteen months of Israeli attacks on Lebanon that killed 3,823 men women and children, Jerusalem and Hezbollah have signed a US-brokered truce that went into force at 02 GMT on Wednesday (27th Nov, 2024).

Commenting on the development, the outgoing US president mused, it reminded that peace was possible. Biden said US would “make another push with Turkiye, Egypt, Qatar, Israel and others to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.”

According to the terms of the ceasefire Israel will withdraw its troops in the next months. UN blue caps will be deployed alongwith Lebanese armed forces. Meanwhile, internally displaced Lebanese have commenced going back home.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that Israel appreciated the US contribution to the process; UK’s M Keir Starmer expressed hope for relief for the people of the two countries; Emmanuel Macron termed the truce as a step toward peace.
