ALEXANDRIA (Virginia): IS-KP Cmdr Mohammad Sharifullah (aka Jafar), accused of being the mastermind of 2021 Kabul International Airport’s bombing, that killed 13 Americans and 170 Afghans, was produced before the Federal Court here on Thursday (6th March, 2025) for initial hearing.
Earlier, he was nabbed from Pak-Afghan border when CIA informed ISI about his precise location and was extradited to USA. Sharifullah will be produced before the court on Monday (10th March, 2025). Sharifullah, who communicated with the judge via an interpreter, was told that he would be incarcerated for life if convicted in the Abbey Gate bombing case. Having no money he will be needing a Federal Public Defender.

US President Donald Trump in his first address to Congress on 4th March, 2025 thanked Pakistan for helping apprehend the top suspect of August 2021 Abbey Gate suicide bombing at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai Int’l Airport that killed thirteen American service members and 170 Afghans while US military was hastily withdrawing from Afghanistan on the then president’s instructions.
Sources informed that Sharifullah was apprehended ten days ago in an Intelligence-Based Operation carried out by CIA and ISI. But he was transported to US on 4th March as informed by the president: “Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity, and he is on his way here to face the swift sword of American justice. I want to thank especially the Govt. of Pakistan for helping arrest this monster.”
According to details CIA had given information to ISI apropos the presence of (a longstanding high-value target for US counter-terrorism) Mohammad Sharifullah Jafar near the Pak-Afghan border. Earlier, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, by means of telephone, had raised the matter with ISI Chief Lt. Gen Asim Malik. Later at the Munich Security Conference John Ratcliffe and Asim Malik again talked about the arrest of Afghan terrorist who had killed 13 Americans..
