WANA (South Waziristan): An IED attack, carried out in Rustam Bazaar here, by unidentified militants, has killed three people (including Malik Tariq Wazir, Chief of Ahmadzai Wazir Tribe) and injured four others, on Monday (18th May, 2026).

According to details when the vehicle of Malik Tariq Wazir was passing through Rustam Bazaar the the militants detonated the IED, that they had planted near Gulshan Plaza. Injured and the bodies have been taken to DHQ, Wana where the four injured are being treated.

Suicide attack on Wana Cadet College IED Attack by Militants Killed Tribal Chief

One may recall that on 11th November, 2025 five militants carried out an attack at the military-run Cadet College (situated near Afghan border) here. All the 650 people (including 525 cadets) trapped inside were rescued by the security forces who neutralised all the attackers. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Khalifa Mansoor Group had claimed responsibility for the suicide attack. Mansoor was slain in Afghanistan in Oct, 2017, by means of a drone attack carried out by US forces.

According to sources, the suicide blast carried out by the militants was so colossal that it badly damaged 12 houses and injured 16 civilians. It is evident that the militants wanted to repeat the act of terrorism carried out a decade ago on 16th December 2014 at Army Public School.
