PARIS: In order to observe Armistice Day, President Emmanuel Macron hosted British Prime Minister Keir Starmer here on Monday (11th November, 2024).
It is pertinent to mention here that Keir Starmer was the first British leader to be hosted for the occasion since 1944 when General de Gaulle hosted Winston Churchill. The event is meant to pay respects to those who were killed during WWI as well as the veterans who fought in the ensuing battles.
Maintaining that such events were vital in ensuring the memory of millions of young soldiers, sailors and aviators live on for generation to come, Starmer said: “I am honoured to be in Paris to stand united with President Macron in tribute to the fallen of the First World War who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy today.”
