Swat: A local tourist torched to death over alleged desecration of Holy Quran

MADYAN (Swat/KP): 36-year-old local tourist Muhammad Ismail from Sialkot was shot dead in Police Station by an enraged mob who dragged his torso on the road before torching it over alleged desecration of the Holy Quran here on Thursday (20th June, 2024) night.

The suspect Muhammad Ismail, who was staying at Skyways Hotel near Madyan Bridge on Swat River, was accused of burning the pages of Holy Quran.

According to details tourist Muhammad Ismail checked in on 18th of June. A couple of days later another customer claimed to have seen burnt pages of Holy Quran in his room.

Hotel owner, identified as Haider, told the Media that his management, gauging the seriousness of the issue handed Muhammad Ismail over to Police.

SHO Islam-ul-Haq, sensing the gravity of the situation, shifted the suspect Muhammad Ismail to a Police servant quarter.

This act of SHO was a mistake. He neither sought advice of his higher-ups nor took the suspect to a safer place.
