Minister sees no corruption in Peshawar BRT project

PESHAWAR: Provincial Information Minister Shaukat Yousaf Zai today strongly rejected the reports of corruption in Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) project, saying it was executed in a transparent manner.

“Propaganda has been launched at all levels against the BRT project as so far not a single penny corruption was proved in the ambitious project which would provide a comfortable and safe mode of traveling to the people of Metropolis,” the provincial minister said while speaking at a ceremony.

Owing to flawed economic policies of the previous governments, the country’s foreign loans swell to Rs 30,000 billion, he said. Now, the country had been put on the right track and was moving ahead on the path of development for the first time in the country’s history, he added.

In the past, the foreign loans taken by the previous governments were laundered and those elements pretended that democracy was in stake when we’re asked to account for the looted money.

He said they were ready for reconciliation with the opposition but he added no compromise would be made on accountability.

Meanwhile, the information minister addressing an inaugural ceremony of solarization system here at the civil secretariat said the government was utilizing all its available natural resources for the benefit of people.

The country can be retrieved from the present energy crisis by producing cheap electricity, he said adding that the government has started work on a mega energy action plan to meet the crisis in effective manners.

He informed that 950KW electricity would be produced on a daily basis by connecting the CM Secretariat and Civil Secretariat with the solar system. Over 4,440 mosques across the province were being connected with solarization system while 8,000 schools and 187 BHUs were also being facilitated with the solar energy system.

Yousafzai said that the project of solarization in 2,900 houses of 100 villages were also under consideration. Similarly, clean drinking water projects and tube-wells were also linked with the solar energy system.

The construction of dams was being politicized and made controversial by certain quarters in the country which was unfair, he said adding the previous regimes were involved in massive corruption instead of concentrating on core issues of the country.

Shaukat said previously PTI government in KP (2013-18) has successfully completed the Billion Tree Tsunami Scheme. The opposition was making controversial uplift projects instead of giving credit to smaller federating units.
