Mourners attend Hassan Nasrallah’s Namaz-e-Janaza

BEIRUT: Despite freezing temperature, tens of thousands of men, women and children dressed in black converged in a stadium to attend the Namaz-e-Janaza of their slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah here on Sunday (23rd Feb, 2025).

Numerous dedicated mourners walked long distances to reach the site of funeral prayers of their Iran-backed leader who guided them for over thirty years before he was neutralised in September, 2024 during an Israeli aerial attack.

Gauging the popularity of Hassan Nasrallah organisers installed tens of thousands of extra seats in and out of the 50,000-capacity stadium. The Namaz-e-Janaza was screened on a huge screen enabling all to participate in the ceremony.

On 27th September, 2024, Hezbollah had confirmed the death of its commander Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli air strike on a multi-storied building here.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF), proclaiming the death of Hezbollah Commander, took to the X (Twitter) on 28th Sept to state: “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world!”

Israeli army, stated that Hassan Nasrallah and many other Hezbollah’s southern front commanders were neutralized: “The message is clear: We will reach everyone who threatens the citizens of Israel in the north, in the south, and on more distant fronts.”

Israeli Air Force had carried out a precise attack using 85 bunker busters (weighing one ton each) on Hezbollah’s underground HQ in the southern suburb of Beirut, to neutralise the chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah here on 27th September.

Bombardment had transformed six buildings into rubble and left dozens dead and wounded. Israeli military claimed that Hezbollah’s headquarters were embedded under residential buildings.

It is pertinent to mention here that US had designated militant group Hezbollah a terrorist organisation.
