MTI Ordinance doesn’t mean to privatise govt hospitals: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Ordinance would not change the status of the government hospitals, neither would it mean to privatise them.

In a tweet, the prime minister said the Ordinance did not mean privatisation, but part of the government’s reforms for public sector hospitals.

“This [MIT Ordinance] would ensure an improved and modern management [in the hospitals],” he said.

“The MTI Act/Ordinance is to enable improved and modern management of public sector hospitals. This is NOT privatisation but part of our public sector hospitals’ reform plan. The hospitals will remain government hospitals. Better managed hospitals will mean better facilities for patients,” his tweet read.
