NA session to convene at 10am on 29th February

National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: Since President Arif Alvi , returning the caretaker govt.’s summary, did not convene, as per the Constitution, a new session of NA within 21 days of the 8th Feb polls, Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf summoned the session at 10am Thursday (29th Feb, 2024).

According to details the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs requested the Prime Minister’s approval to make arrangements for the inaugural session of NA. After the legal advice from the Law & Justice Ministry the PM had given the green light under Constitution’s clause (2) of Article 91.

However, cynics go haywire attempting to decipher the enigma, foreseeing the opposition knocking the doors of judiciary against the session, that they believe could not be convened by anyone except the President of the Republic.

Alvi, whose presidency is coming to a conclusion within a few weeks, emphasized that he would only approve the summary if the issue of reserved seats for women and minorities was resolved and distributed among the parties, as per law.

It is pertinent to mention here that the announcement was made a day before the (29th Feb) deadline in order to facilitate the newly-elected members converge at the capital from all the provinces of the country on Thursday morning to take oath.

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Information & Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi visited the National Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday (28th Feb, 2024) to review the arrangements for the inaugural session (including facilitation desk established for the registration of MNAs).
