WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani said on Friday that Pakistan and the US are cooperating in countering extremism in the region through regular interaction and exchange of intelligence
He said this during a meeting with US Senator Ed Markey in Washington.
According to the Pakistani embassy in Washington, Jilani briefed Senator Markey about Pakistan’s application for membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and highlighted Pakistan’s credentials for the membership.
“The two exchanged views on adopting a non-discriminatory and equitable approach for membership of the NSG. Matters related to strategic stability in South Asia also came up for discussion,” read the statement.
“Discussing Pakistan’s application for membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, Ambassador Jilani informed Senator Markey that Pakistan’s desire to participate in the NSG stands on solid grounds of technical experience, capability and well-established commitment to nuclear safety.”
