KARACHI: The 9th martyrdom anniversary of Pakistan’s first female fighter pilot, Marium Mukhtiar is being observed on Sunday (24th of November, 2024).
23-year-old Marium was on a routine training flight when her FT-7PG aircraft developed a fault and crashed at Kandian area in Bhakra near Mianwali.
She successfully ejected before the crash but suffered grave injuries that proved to be fatal. The government of Pakistan posthumously bestowed upon her the Tamgha-e-Basalat on 23rd March 2016.
Her father, Mukhtiar Ahmed Shaikh was a retired colonel of the Pakistan Army, who inspired her to join the armed forces.
Following early schooling she graduated as fighter pilot in 2007 (with seven other female Pakistanis) and on 6th of May, 2011, she joined PAF.
