KARACHI: Provincial Home Minister, Zia-ul-Islam Lanjar, while talking to journalists in presence of IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon and AIG Javed Alam Odho, at a Presser held here at KPC on Wednesday (1st Jan 2025) warned the Politico-Religious party MWM orchestrated sit-in participants of stern retaliation if they continued blocking the arteries shutting down the Metropolis.
Home minister asked how the protesters claimed to be peaceful when they had resorted to agitation and torched motorcycles of eight citoyens, severely injured cops and burnt Police Check Post. Pointing out that the Metropolis remained closed for a week the home minister informed that despite offers by the government apropos manifesting at designated places sans causing discomfort to the citizens the sit-ins continued on main arteries.
MWM continued manifesting against killing of Shias in Parachinar, despite Govt warnings that the dharnas all over the commercial hub of Pakistan were harming country’s economy and disrupting the life of citoyens as they could not commute. Police action has also been carried out at a number of sites. On Wednesday (1st day of January, 2025) too protesters damaged a Police mobile by pelted stones on it at Numaish Chowrangi.
Meanwhile, following three-week long parleys the two warring (Shia and Non-Shia) tribes have signed a 14-point peace accord here on Wednesday (1st Jan 2025). According to details tribal elders converged at Kohat Fort where GCO 9 Division Major General Zulfiqar Bhatti had arranged a meeting (jirga) to figure out a way to end the skirmishes between two tribes that resulted into deaths of 130 citoyens in the last two months.
The Apex Committee had decided to dismantle all the bunkers and remove all firearms in order to ameliorate the deteriorating law and order state of affairs. It was agreed that nobody will possess unlicensed weapons. After the passage of the 2nd Feb 2025 deadline, law enforces will confiscate all the heavy weapons in the area.
It is pertinent to mention here that due to closure of exits and entrances, inhabitants are facing a grave dearth of food and medicine While there have been reports that 100 children died because of non-availability of medicine caused by the closure of main arteries, a heli service had been delivering medicine and other goods to the citizens.
