Peace in Lyari among Sindh government’s top priorities: Sindh CM




KARACHI: Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that Sindh government is working to bring back peace in Lyari.

He said this while addressing an Independence Day commemorative event at the People’s Sports Ground in Lyari.

The Sindh CM said that the provincial government has tasked the Rangers to restore peace and law and order in Lyari.

“Rangers has been tasked to maintain peace and law and order in Lyari,” he said, adding that DG Rangers Sindh Bilal Akbar has recommended to host a football match in Lyari.

Shah vowed to bring the People’s Sports Ground stadium at par with international standards, and host a football tournament of teams from across the country. He also announced that an engineering college will be established in Lyari after the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University.

Earlier, the Sindh CM said that the Sindh government has so far cancelled 550, 000 unverified arms licenses.

Talking to media after presiding over a Rehabilitation Response (RR) programme at FPCCI here, he said that the cancelled licenses could be revalidated if necessary documents are presented. Otherwise, they stand cancelled.

“Sindh government had been extending date for verification of arms licenses from time to time but I have refused to extend the further and have cancelled over 550,000 license which had not been verified so far,” he said, adding that the Sindh government has decided to give an opportunity to  the holders of cancelled licenses to file an application with the home department to revalidate their licenses but all this depends upon the authentication of the required documents.

Murad Ali Shah said that he had launched Rs10 billion special package to repair, rehabilitate, recast and reconstruct important roads of the city.

“I know Karachi contributes in the national exchequer more than any other city, therefore it must be given a due share for which I am striving hard and working to give a new beautiful shape to this city,” he said.

Referring to water shortage in the metropolis, Shah said that he will launch K-IV project tomorrow to provide 260 MGD water to the residents of the city.

“This would also help to provide more water to the industrialists,” he assured and said it was the first phase of K-IV and then there would be another phase for another 260 MGD.
