PFUJ Condemns Resolution Seeking Ban On Social Media Platforms

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: G.M. Jamali President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Secretary General Rana Muhammad Azeem have strongly condemned the resolution submitted by PPP Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi in the Senate asking a ban on the Social Media platforms and demanded the senators to reject it unanimously.

It may be recalled that PPP Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi had presented the said Resolution in Senate seeking a permanent ban on Social Media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, X and YouTube).

According to Bahramand Khan Tangi the banning of Social Media platforms would save the young generation from their negative and devastating affects.

The Resolution (in the agenda for 4th March, 2024 session) maintains that the Social Media platforms are adversely affecting the young generation in the country.

These platforms, according to the Resolution, are being used against Islam, culture, for creating hatred amongst people and culture, to propagate negative and malicious propaganda armed forces of Pakistan.

The PFUJ leadership holds that the Resolution is against the basic rights of the people to have access to the information and truth.

PFUJ asked political parties to raise their voices against the said Resolution which is an attempt to gag the freedom of expression conferred by the Constitution of Pakistan and UN resolutions.
