PM inaugurates first 1180 MW LNG-based power plant in Bhikki

SHEIKHUPURA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday inaugurated 1180 MW LNG-fueled Bhikki power plant in the suburban area of Sheikhupura. This project will immediately add 717 MW power to the national grid.

Addressing an event after the inauguration of the plant, PM said: “Bhikki power plant has been completed at a minimum cost and saved Rs50 billion through transparency. This project will help reduce electricity shortfall.”

He said the Rs77 bn plant has the ability to produce environment-friendly electricity without wasting gas.

PM also took the chance to lash out at KPK government for bad governance saying that those giving call for protest against loadshedding were themselves responsible for power shortfall.

The Bhikki power plant is the first ever LNG-based power plant in the country and will for now contribute 313MW to the national grid. It was completed over a period of 18 months.
