ISLAMABAD: Responding to the correspondence of President Alvi asking the ECP to propose a date of polls, the Commission informed that general elections could be held honestly, justly and fairly in the month of October, 2022.
However, the Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan has maintained that according to the Constitution of Pakistan ECP is bound to hold elections within 90 days of the dissolution of the Parliament.
The said letter stated that President Alvi had to appoint a date (not later than 90 days from the date of dissolution of NA) in order to facilitate holding the general elections under Article 48(5)(A) and Article 224(2) of the Constitution.
It may be recalled that President Alvi had sought the dates for holding elections after he dissolved the National Assembly (NA) on Prime Minister Imran Khan’s advice following the dismissal of a no-trust motion against the premier by NA Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri.
