PPP will remain forever, Zardari reminds detractors

LAHORE: Asif Ali Zardari, the Co-chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party, has claimed that his party was the powerful party of Pakistan and it will remain forever.

“Governments will come and go but Pakistan Peoples Party will remain forever in the history of the nation,” he said while addressing a Pakistan Day event organised at Bilawal House. “PPP has a long history during which we have always prioritised the sanctity and security of the country,” he added.

The former president said they raised the slogan of ‘Pakistan Khappay‘(We Want Pakistan) to safeguard the integrity and unity of the country.

“Cherishing love for Pakistan is my first and foremost priority and it is for political leaders like me to protect the younger generation, Zardari said.

“We need to protect Pakistan. The land of Pakistan, our children, future generations, we need to safeguard it for them.”

He said that the government leaders have developed arrogance of dictators such as Saddam Hussain, who considered themselves above the law thinking they could get away with impunity.

“I can notice arrogance in the rulers, the kind of arrogance displayed by dictators such as Saddam Hussein and others,” he said while referring to the former strongman of Iraq.

He dismissed the government’s claims that the country was making progress as a network of roads and motorways was being built.

“The rulers are pursuing only those projects which offer them lucrative kickbacks,” he alleged.

He claimed that the rulers did not have the welfare of the poor, labourers and peasants at their heart. “They have no plans for [increasing the quantum of irrigation] water for farmers or [creating new] employment opportunities.”
