President administers oath to Shaukat Tareen and Shibli Faraz

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi administered oath to newly appointed Federal Ministers Shaukat Fayyaz Tareen and Senator Shibli Faraz at a ceremony held in Aiwan-e-Sadr here on Saturday 17th of April.

It may be recalled that on Friday 16th of April Prime Minister Imran Khan had reshuffled the Federal Cabinet yet again by giving the portfolio of Finance and Revenue to former PPP-P minister Shaukat Tareen; Ch. Fawad Hussain had been made the Minister of Information and Broadcasting for the second time.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain taking to the Twitter has vowed to change misconceptions about Pakistan and to highlight vibrant effort of the government for making Naya Pakistan. He stated that he would be closely associated with tasks he initiated at Ministry of Science and Technology. He said Ministry of Science and Technology has the ability to change fate of the country.

Hoping that the Ministry of Information Technology and Ministry of Science and Technology would be merged, he said super effort would be made to transform the country. Chaudhry Fawad Hussain thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for providing him an opportunity to work as Minister for Science and Technology.

Shibli Faraz, Hammad Azhar and Hafeez Sheikh: On 29th of March the then Information Minister Shibli Faraz announced that the incumbent PTI-led govt had removed Abdul Hafeez Shaikh as finance minister. Shibli also informed that Hammad Azhar had been given additional charge of the finance ministry: “PM Khan has formed a new finance team and it will be led by Hammad Azhar.” According to the then Information Minister, failure to harness the augmenting rates of commodities had cost Hafeez Shaikh his job.

Muhammad Hammad Azhar, who held the portfolio of Federal Minister of Industries and Production, was supposed to look after the affairs of Finance Ministry as an additional charge. Interestingly, the PTI govt. had changed three finance ministers in its 30-month rule. The third Finance Minister Hammad Azhar was expected to follow PM’s vision apropos provision of relief to the suffering masses by keeping the inflation low.

While savants at the helm of affairs were insinuating that Shaikh was shown the door following the passage of SBP Amendment Act 2021, by the National Assembly, cynics go haywire wondering why SBP is being granted impunity minimizing the govt’s intervention.

It is pertinent to mention here that Hafeez Shaikh was defeated by PPP-P’s Yousuf Raza Gilani in the Senate elections held on the 3rd day of March, 2021. His losing the Senate polls had greatly upset the government while augmenting the confidence of the opposition.

Reacting to the development PPP-P Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had taken to the twitter to hold: “Sacking finance minister is victory of PDM. PTI minister needed to be elected to continue in post & senate defeat made that impossible. Now government admits inflation is skyrocketing because of its failed policies. Parliamentary opposition proven most effective vs this regime.”

In western democracies the opposition parties happen to have a complete cabinet consisting of shadow ministers. Hence in case of a change they assume the responsibilities without any difficulty as they remain close to the affairs.
