MOSCOW: FM Sergei Lavrov, commenting on a report that an agreement to supply long range cruise missiles (that could reach deep inside Russia) to Ukraine was about to be inked, warned US on Wednesday (4th September, 2024) not to joke about it’s Red Lines.
Talking to a Russian TV anchor Sergei Lavrov said: “I won’t be surprised by anything — the Americans have already crossed the threshold they set for themselves. They are being egged on, and Zelenskiy of course sees this and takes advantage of it…
“But they should understand — they are joking about our red lines here. They shouldn’t joke about our red lines.”
It is pertinent to mention here that Russia happens to harbour the world’s biggest arsenal of nuclear warheads. But despite its warnings US and its allies have augmented the provision of tanks, missiles and fighter jets to Ukraine.
Earlier too Deputy FM of Russia Sergei Ryabkov has warned on 1st Sept 2024 that his country would change its Nuclear Doctrine if West did not stop using Ukraine to wage a proxy war against it.
It may be recalled that back in 2020 the present nuclear doctrine was set out by means of a decree by Putin: “Russia may use nuclear weapons in the event of a nuclear attack by an enemy or a conventional attack that threatens the existence of the state”.
