NORTH WAZIRISTAN: A Russian MI-8 chopper, chartered by Mari Petroleum Company, harbouring 14 people (including three Russian pilots and crew members) crashed near Shiwa Oil Field here on Saturday (28th September, 2024) claiming six lives, eight injured are being treated at Combined Military Hospital Thal.
Mari Petroleum spokesman informed: “Although the helicopter managed to land, it unfortunately lost control afterwards. Evacuation operations are currently underway, with support from all relevant departments, including the Pakistan Army.” A probe into the tragic accident has been initiated, but savants at the helm of the affairs are affirmative that there was no act of sabotage. When the chopper experienced a technical fault immediately after takeoff, the pilots attempted an emergency landing but while doing so the tail rotor hit the ground.
