Sharif’s Mumbai Attack account misleading: NSC

ISLAMABAD: In a statement released by the government deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s comment apropos 26/11 Mumbai attacks has been rejected as misleading and incorrect by the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting held here at PM House today: “The meeting reviewed the recent statement in the context of Mumbai attacks, as it appeared in the Daily Dawn of 12th May 2018, and unanimously termed this statement as incorrect and misleading.”

It is pertinent to mention here that deposed Nawaz Sharif while talking to Dawn held: “Militant organisations are active. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai? Explain it to me. Why can’t we complete the trial?”

The meeting called on the advice of the military was formally chaired by the prime minister. Others who attended the two and half hour long meeting included Chief of Army Staff, National Security Advisor, DG ISI and senior cabinet officials. Opposition leader (who is not a part of the NSC) was also requested to attend the huddle.

Saying that it was very unfortunate that the opinion arising out of either misconceptions or grievances was being presented in disregard of concrete facts and realities, the members of the huddle rejected the allegations and condemned assertions based on false beliefs.

Declaring that Pakistan would continue its efforts to eliminate terrorism on all fronts the statement pointed out that India denied Pakistani investigators access to Ajmal Kasab, the convicted attacker who was hanged by India.

According to the statement, Kasab’s hurried execution impeded the investigation of the case, adding that India repeatedly denied assistance in the probe while there was complete cooperation from Pakistan…At the same time, Pakistan continues to wait for cooperation from India on the infamous Kulbhushan Jadhav and Samjhota Express episodes.

The PM took Nawaz into confidence before releasing an official statement: “The meeting recalled that it was not Pakistan, but India that has delayed the finalisation of the case. Besides many other refusals during the investigation, the denial of access to the principal accused, Ajmal Qasab, and his extraordinarily hurried execution became the core impediment in the finalisation of the trial. At the same time, Pakistan continues to wait for cooperation from India on the infamous Kulbhushan Jadhav and Samjhota Express episodes.”

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Javed Latif Tuesday said former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had put the country on the path of speedy development and started mega project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Talking to the Media he said the PML-N was fully united and there was no rift in the party, adding people were supporting the PML-N and it would win upcoming general election on the basis of its performance. Javed Latif said the press release issued by chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding transferring of 4.9 billion dollars to India without any evidence had damaged the country’s reputation before the world.

Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry Monday said former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had always worked for strengthening the country and increasing its respect internationally. Talking to the Media he said some people were busy in misinterpreting the statement of Nawaz Sharif and were acting as the spokesperson of Indian media. He said political parties should avoid to do politics and point scoring on sensitive matters. The minister said PML-N was the most popular political party among the masses and it would win upcoming general election with majority, adding other political parties could not compete with the PML-N in political grounds because our party government had moved the country on the path of development and resolved major issues of the country including terrorism, energy shortfall, strengthen national economy and provided modern transport facilities in the shape of Metro Bus and Orange Line system to facilitate the people of the country.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan Monday said the statement of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was `misinterpreted’ by the media. Talking to reporters here at the Punjab Assembly, he said some media persons wanted to damage the popularity of Nawaz Sharif, but such tactics could not shake people’s trust in his leadership. “The people love Nawaz Sharif,” he added. The minister said various conspiracies were being hatched against Nawaz Sharif. Responding to a question, he said the PML-N government had worked round the clock to overcome electricity outages, eliminate terrorism and bring about economic stability in the country.
