KARACHI: Quoting his unsatisfactory performance the Sindh Cabinet, that met here today with CM in the chair, has approved the removal of IGP Kaleem Imam.
PPP-P Minister Saeed Ghani informed the Media that four names had been recommended to Federal Cabinet for the post of IGP Sindh. He also insinuated that a number of unlawful acts were carried out during his tenure. Saeed Ghani, pointing towards kidnappings, fake encounters and unlawful arrests, said that the provincial government would write to the Federal Cabinet not only to show IGP Kaleem Imam the door but also to take action against him. Holding that during Kaleem Imam’s tenure not only the law and order situation had deteriorated, at a number of occasions he gave irresponsible statements.
Saeed Ghani told that names of Ghulam Qadir Thebo, Mushtaq Mahar, Kamran Fazal and Sanaullah Abbasi were at the top of the list. CM has also been asked to commence disciplinary action against IGP Imam by sending a detailed statement, with proof of his misconduct, to the establishment division: “In the past, a number of IGs have been replaced in Peshawar, Punjab and even the federal capital without any reason given, in our case, we are actually giving concrete reasons for our request. This is why, we believe there should be no problem in replacing the current police chief.”
Further speaking about IGP’s statements Ghani held: “The IG has given several statements regarding him not being able to choose his own team. However, in reality, I can assure you that at least in Karachi, from the additional IG to any SSP, all transfers and postings have been made on his recommendation.”
Retaliating to the PPP-P move, PTIs Firdous Shamim Naqvy, said that a Provincial Govt could not remove an IGP sans consultation. He said that PTI would take Sindh Government to court for removing Kaleem Imam. Pointing out that only Federal Government could suggest the names for the post of IGP Sindh, Firdous Shamim Naqvi stated: “The doors of the court are open for us and for Kaleem Imam as well.”
