Sindh High Court cancels IG Sindh’s removal notification, allows him to keep the charge as police chief

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday rejected the notification to remove Inspector General of Sindh Police Allah Dino Khawaja and allowed him to keep the charge as provincial police chief.

Sindh government on Saturday issued a notification stating that the government was removing AD Khawaja as police chief. The Additional IG Sardar Abdul Majeed was appointed as acting IG Sindh.

A contempt of court petition was filed in SHC against the provincial government that removed Khawaja from his office despite the judicial orders in this regard.

The court took up the petition as maintainable for immediate hearing.

The petition has Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon and new Inspector General of Sindh police as respondents.

Civil Society to initiate contempt of court proceedings if IG ADK transferred

KARACHI: Members from various spheres of life converged here today at KPC asking Sindh Govt. to withdraw the transfer notification of IGP A.D. Khawaja.

Addressing a joint Presser  Karamat Ali of Pakistan Institute of Labor Education & Research (PILER), Nazim F. Haji, Zahid, Mahnaz Rehman of Aurat Foundation, Mir Zulfiqar Ali of Workers Education & Research Organization said that the Govt. has committed contempt of court  as Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued stay order on his transfer last year on 28th of December.

Karamat told the journalists that civil society organizations including PILER, Orangi Pilot Project – Research & Training Institute and Urban Resource Centre as institutions and some individuals including himself, Nazim H. Haji, pop artist Shahzad Roi, &  Aquila Ismail have filed a Constitution Petition in SHC on Police reforms in the Province.

Contempt of Court notice has been sent to the respondents yesterday (1st of April) demanding withdrawal of the notification for appointment of new IGP.  A. D. Khawaja has also been asked not to vacate the position because it would be a contempt of court.

Respondents include Federation of Pakistan through the Secretary, Ministry of Interior & the Secretary, Ministry of Law & Justice, Sindh Govt. through the Chief Secretary & the Home Secretary, Pakistan Rangers through DG, Acting IGP and IGP.

Karamat said that if Govt. failed to withdraw the notification by today (2nd day of April), contempt of court proceedings would be initiated.
