(Sindh’s) Bundal Island project will provide jobs: PM

ISLAMABAD: While talking to the Governor of Sindh  Imran Ismail here today (8th of October, 2020), PM Imran Khan held that the Bundal Island Project will provide enormous employment and investment opportunities.

PM Imran Khan directed the governor to finalize all affairs related to Bundal Island in collaboration with Sindh Government. Meanwhile, Imran Ismail briefed him about the progress made in the Karachi Transformation Plan.

It is pertinent to mention here that yesterday (7th Oct., 2020) Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz categorically rejected Sindh Govt.’s claim apropos ownership of Bundal and Buddo islands.

During his Karachi visit he accused Sindh Govt. of playing politics on the twin islands issue off the coast of the Metropolis: “The PTI government never makes any unconstitutional move. Our maritime minister Ali Zaidi has already explained things clearly.

“The PM and his government want to bring economic prosperity in this country. Who would benefit if the economy reactivates due to this project? Of course, the people of Karachi and Sindh. Then why they [Sindh government] are opposing it? It’s all politics,” Faraz added.

Federal Minister for Maritime Syed Ali Zaidi  said on 6th of October that the federal government wanted to develop islands located in Karachi.

“The center was making efforts for the development and prosperity of the country through all possible means,” he said.

Zaidi accusing the PPP-P leaders of double standard said that they had been exposed on the islands issue before the citoyens. He further said that the PPP was creating hype on the development issues.

Zaidi said that the islands were falling in the jurisdiction of Port Qasim, and the federal government was keen at developing provincial capital and wanted to resolve the issues of the people of the Post City.

Though PTI-led incumbent coalition government in the center tried to keep it a hush hush affair by making Alvi  promulgate an ordinance facilitating Centre to take control of Sindh’s two islands, Bundal and Buddo, along the Karachi coast, keeping Parliament out of the loop,  PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on 5th of October (equating the move with the illegal annexation of India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019) vowed to resist the move.

Two weeks after promulgating The Pakistan Islands Development Authority (PIDA) Ordinance, 2020, Alvi discussed the matter of Bundal Island development with Malik Riaz, Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Arif Habib and other entrepreneurs.

The Sindh Govt. – claiming that the islands belongs to the people and the Govt. of Sindh – has asked the  Fed. Govt. to immediately withdraw the ordinance promulgated to take their control. At a Presser representatives of the provincial Govt. informed that Sindh Cabinet had also decided not to hold any further discussion with the Centre regarding the development of the islands.
