KARACHI: A thought-provoking event was organized by Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) and Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT) to mark the birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan here on Thursday (17th Oct. 2024).
On the occasion, prominent scholars and researchers of the country shed light on various aspects of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s personality and services.
Addressing the ceremony, distinguished industrialist and social activist Bashir Jan Muhammad said: “It is a great honor for Sir Syed University who organized a wonderful event for such a great visionary leader of the subcontinent. Sir Syed’s thoughts and legacy is a beacon for us.
“He played a pivotal and significant role in the cultural and educational development of the Muslims in South Asia. We should improve ourselves and try to reform society in the light of Sir Syed’s doctrines, whose ideological struggle is commendable and unparalleled.”
On the occasion, Bashir Jan Muhammad announced a donation of Rs. 50 lakhs for the students of Sir Syed University.
Speaking on the auspicious occasion, President of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association (AMUOBA) and Chancellor of Sir Syed University, Jawaid Anwar, said: “It is a memorable day that provides us with an excellent opportunity to recall the services of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and highlight his contributions towards the reform of the society and Muslims of South Asia.
“Sir Syed Ahmed Khan gave new hope to the nation suffering from despair and distress, and restoring their aplomb, he motivated them to face the realities of the contemporary era and its requirements.
“He presented bi-nation theory and laid the foundation for Aligarh Muslim University, which prepared and provided the enthusiastic youth force who actively took part in the Pakistan Movement and paved the way for the formation of Pakistan. Even the Aligs played a key role in strengthening the newly built Pakistan at the initial stage.”
Chancellor Jawaid Anwar announced to establish the Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan Chair and Z.A. Nizami Chair at Sir Syed University.
The General Secretary of AMUOBA, Engr. Muhammad Arshad Khan, said that Sir Syed had a multidimensional personality, and the most important aspect of his life was that he was a reformer and a social activist who gave primary importance to modern education. His biggest mission was to change the concept of Muslim education.
Renowned scholar Muhammad Islam Nishtar said that Sir Syed Ahmed Khan emerged as the greatest reformer and leader of the Muslims of the subcontinent in the era of chaos and anarchy. Aligarh Muslim University united Muslims of different cults and creeds on one platform.
Professor Dr. Sohail Shafiq said that Sir Syed was a true admirer of art and culture. Dr. Nigar Sajjad Zaheer said what Sir Syed dreamed in the era of turmoil seemed impossible to materialize, but his dreams came true. Conducting the event, Professor Noshaba Siddiqui said that knowledge is the greatest need of society.
Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association awarded the gold medal to the Chancellor of Sir Syed University, Jawaid Anwar, while the shields were given to the speakers of the ceremony. In the end, SSUET students, along with Aligs and faculty, presented Tarana-e-Aligarh.

معاشرے کی اصلاح اور حالات کی بہتری کے لیے سرسید تو نہیں مگر فکرِ سرسید موجود ہے۔۔چانسلر جاوید انوار
کراچی، سرسید یونیورسٹی آف انجینئرنگ اینڈ ٹیکنالوجی اور علیگڑھ انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ٹیکنالوجی کے زیرِ اہتمام سرسید احمد خان کے یومِ پیدائش کے موقع پر ایک فکر انگیز تقریب کا اہتمام کیا گیا جس میں ملک کے نامور مفکرین ومحققین نے سرسید احمد خان کی شخصیت کے مختلف پہلوؤں پر روشنی ڈالی۔
اس موقع پر اظہارِ خیال کرتے ہوئے ممتاز صنعتکار اور سماجی رہنما بشیر جان محمد نے کہا کہ برصغیر کے اتنے بڑے رہبر و رہنما کے لیے تقریب کا اہتمام کرنا جامعہ کے لیے بڑے اعزاز کی بات ہے۔سرسید احمد خان کی فکر و تعلیمات، خدمات اور ان کی وراثت ہمارے لیے مشعلِ راہ ہے۔انھوں نے مسلمانانِ برِصغیر کے تہذیبی اور تعلیمی ارتقا میں اہم اور موثر کردار ادا کیا۔ ہمیں افکار سرسید کی روشنی میں اپنی اصلاح پر توجہ دینے کی ضرورت ہے۔۔ میں پُرامید ہوں کہ ہماری نئی نسل اکابرین کی فکر و سوچ سے استفادہ کرے گی اور ان کی عملی ونظریاتی جدوجہد کو اپنی اصلاح کا ذریعہ بنائے گی۔
اس موقع پر بشیر جان محمد نے سرسید یونیورسٹی کے طلباء کے لیے پچاس لاکھ روپے عطیہ دینے کا اعلان کیا۔
یومِ سرسید کی تقریب سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے علیگڑھ مسلم یونیورسٹی اولڈ بوائز ایسوسی ایشن کے صدر اور سرسید یونیورسٹی کے چانسلر جاوید انوار نے کہا کہ یومِ سرسید ایک یادگار دن ہے جو فکرِ سرسید کو اجاگر کرنے کا ایک بہترین موقع فراہم کرتا ہے۔سرسید نے اپنی فکر اور تحریک کے ذریعے مایوسی، غلامی اوراندھی تقلید کی زنجیروں میں جکڑی ہوئی قوم کو ایک نئی زندگی کی بشارت دی تھی۔سرسید احمد خان نے برصغیر کے مسلمانوں کے قومی تشخص کو بحال کیا اور دوقومی نظریہ کا تصور پیش کیا۔سرسید احمد خان کی قائم کردہ درسگاہ علیگڑھ مسلم یونیورسٹی، تحریکِ پاکستان کے لیے سرگرم کارکن مہیا کرنے کا ذریعہ بنی۔ایسے کارکن جنہوں نے تشکیلِ پاکستان کی نہ صرف راہ ہموارکی بلکہ نوزائیدہ مملکت کو اپنے پیروں پر کھڑا ہونے کے لیے ایک مضبوط بنیاد فراہم کی۔
ٍٍ انہوں نے کہا کہ آج قوم پھر افراتفری اور انتشار کا شکار ہے۔ معاشرے کی اصلاح اور حالات کی بہتری کے لیے سرسید تو نہیں مگر فکرِ سرسید موجود ہے۔ مستحکم پاکستان اور ایک اچھے مثالی معاشرے کے لئے ضروری ہے کہ ہم سرسید احمد خان کی تعلیمات ونظریات کی عملی تشکیل کو یقینی بنائیں تاکہ تعلیم، تربیت اور شخصیت سازی کا تسلسل جاری رہے اور منتشر قوم،ایک متحد اور نظریاتی قوم بن سکے۔
اس موقع پر چانسلر جاوید انوار نے سرسید یونیورسٹی میں ڈاکٹر عبدالقدیر خان چیئر اور زیڈ اے نظامی چیئر قائم کرنے کا اعلان کیا۔
ممتاز اسکالر محمد اسلام نشترنے کہا کہ سرسید احمد خان مسلمانانِ ہند کے سب سے بڑے مصلح اور رہنما بن کر سامنے آئے۔سرسید کی سوچ کی وجہ سے یہ ارضِ وطن وجود میں آیاورنہ قومیں صدیوں سے آزادی حاصل کرنے کے لیے ترس رہی ہیں۔۔علیگڑھ مسلم یونیورسٹی جیسا تعلیمی اور تربیتی ادارہ قائم کیا جس نے تمام مسلمانوں کو ایک پلیٹ فارم پر یکجا کیا۔
پروفیسر ڈاکٹر سہیل شفیق نے کہا کہ سرسید اہلِ علم و فن کے قدرداں تھے۔انھوں نے بحیثیت انسان خود احتسابی کے عمل سے اپنا سفرنامہ تحریر کیا۔
ڈاکٹر نگار سجاد ظہیر نے کہا کہ سرسید نے جس عہد میں خواب دیکھے، اور جو خواب دیکھے اس کا پور ا ہونا ناممکن نظر آتا تھا۔
اظہارِ تشکر پیش کرتے ہوئے علیگڑھ مسلم یونیورسٹی اولڈ بوائز ایسوسی ایشن کے اعزازی جنرل سیکریٹری انجینئر محمد ارشد خان نے کہا کہ سرسید کی شخصیت کے کئی پہلو ہیں اور جو پہلو سب سے اہم ہے وہ مصلح اور نظریاتی رہنما کا ہے جس میں تعلیم وتربیت کو بنیادی اہمیت حاصل ہے۔ان کا سب سے بڑا مشن مسلمانوں کے تصورِ تعلیم کو تبدیل کرنا تھا۔علم کسی قوم کی نہیں، انسانیت کی میراث ہوتاہے۔علم کی بنیاد توہم پرستی نہیں بلکہ عقل پرستی ہونی چاہئے۔
علیگڑھ مسلم یونیورسٹی اولڈ بوائز ایسوسی ایشن کی جانب سے سرسید یونیورسٹی کے چانسلر جاوید انوار کو گولڈ میڈ ل دیاگیا اور تمام مقررین کو شیلڈز پیش کی گئیں۔نظامت کے فرائض پروفیسر نوشابہ صدیقی نے انجام دئے۔ تقریب کے اختتام پر ترانہ علیگڑھ پیش کیا گیا۔
