STOCKHOLM: Following the shooting of 10 immigrants at Orebro municipal adult education centre (Risbergska school), 200 km from here, the Swedish govt stated on Friday (7th Feb, 2025) that it would tighten gun laws.
Attacker, 35-year-old local man Rickard Andersson, who was enrolled as a student of the Orebro school (in 2021), carried out the worst such attack in Sweden’s history. While killing the members of immigrant community, walking calmly, he shouted ‘you should go away from Europe’.
Shooter was found dead with his three licensed guns by his side before the law enforcers entered the school, insinuating that he committed suicide.It is pertinent to mention here that out of 2700 students enrolled in the municipal adult education centre (Risbergska school) 800 were learning Swedish For Immigrants.
Roberto Eid Forest, Chief of the local police here believe that the gunman, who was not known to them, operated alone and there was no terror motive to the shooting incident. Police believe Andersson was not influenced by any ideology. Moreover, the Police informed that all of those killed were found inside the school building where students had been taking a national exam.
Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf stated: “We send our condolences tonight to the families and friends of the deceased. Our thoughts at this time also go to the injured and their relatives, as well as to others affected. My family and I would like to express our great appreciation for the police, rescue and medical personnel who worked intensively to save and protect human lives on this dark day.”
