Transgender Day at Greenwich University

KARACHI: Transgender Remembrance Day was observed at Greenwich University here on Saturday 20th of November, 2021 to memorialize those who have been murdered due to Transphobia.

In Pakistan transgender persons not only face harassment and discrimination, they are also subjected to violence. A symbolic play staged to highlight this physical and mental agony was followed by screening of a short film on the subject.

Conspicuous among those who spoke on the occasion there were Dr. Sara Gill (who happens to be the only transgender to graduate from Jinnah Medical and Dental College), Nuzhat Shireen Chairperson Sindh Commission on the Status of Women, Kaleem Durrani of HRCP, Reema Imran and Bindya Rana (Executive Director of Gender Interactive Alliance – GIA).

Vice Chancellor Greenwich University Seema Mughal has announced that transgender people will not only be provided full scholarships but they will not be segregated. In this regard Anum Naz Durrani (Head Academic Affairs Greenwich University) and GIA’s Bindya Rana signed a MoU.
