UK Home Office rejects Nawaz’s visa extension request

LONDON: Nawaz Sharif has made an appeal to the British Immigration Tribunal against the Home Office’s refusal to extend his visa.

PML-N while proclaiming that the British Home Office has refused to further extend the visa of Nawaz Sharif, informed that his lawyers had filed an appeal in the British Immigration Tribunal. It has further been stated that the Home Office’s ruling will remain ineffective until a decision is made on the appeal, until then he can stay in the UK legally. It may be recalled that Nawaz Sharif had been allowed to leave Pakistan for medical treatment back in 2019 and since then he is based in London.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan had sent a correspondence to the concerned authorities in UK asking cancellation of the visa granted to Nawaz Sharif for medical treatment. Moreover, parleys are continuing for his deportation from UK. Commenting on the development Minister of Interior Shaikh Rashid Ahmed said that Nawaz Sharif will have to go to prisons as soon as he lands in Pakistan. He told that Nawaz Sharif’s diplomat passport expired on 16th of February and thus he could not travel without that: “If Nawaz Sharif wishes to come to Pakistan, he can obtain a passport within 24 hours.”

PML-N stated that Nawaz Sharif had not applied nor he would seek political asylum:“These people have nothing better than to do than to speak lies about Nawaz Sharif every day.” Sources have pointed out that non-UK citizen could not remain in the Kingdom for fore than 180 days at a time. Hence the deposed PM had been applying for and receiving extensions in his stay till Thursday 5th of August, 2021 when his application for extension was denied. It may be noted that even if Nawaz Sharif’s appeal is turned down by the tribunal he still can go to the court of law.
