ISLAMABAD: Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for South & Central Asian Affairs at the US Department of State John Mark Pommersheim concluded a five-day visit to Pakistan, marking the continued close Pak-US cooperation.
DAS Pommersheim’s visit comes at a significant moment as both countries seek to deepen cooperation on economic growth and shared security interests. The United States is forging new partnerships, championing innovation, and defining a new era of diplomacy.
During his visit, DAS Pommersheim met with Director General of Military Operations Major General Kashif Abdullah, Director General of Military Intelligence Major General Wajid Aziz Khan, Minister of IT and Telecommunications Shaza Khawaja, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik. He also engaged with business leaders and alumni of US exchange programs.
In Islamabad, DAS Pommersheim attended the launch of Pakistan’s Indus AI Week, where he supported US interests in expanding partnerships in Pakistan’s IT and digital sectors and advocated for a level playing field for US firms. DAS Pommersheim’s discussions with Pakistani officials underscored the importance of expanding trade and investment, including the AI, IT, energy, and critical minerals and mining sectors.
DAS Pommersheim recognized Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms efforts under the IMF program and encouraged officials to implement policies that foster a fair investment environment. He welcomed Pakistan’s efforts to implement reforms that enable private sector-led growth.
In Lahore, DAS Pommersheim attended Basant celebrations, experiencing Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage first-hand. He met Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb to discuss US business engagement with Punjab and promote Pakistani investment in the United States.
He also visited the US Educational Foundation in Pakistan’s new building, which opened in December 2025, where he met US exchange program alumni.

یہ دورہ امریکہ اور پاکستان کے درمیان جاری قریبی تعاون کاغماز ہے ۔ یہ دورہ ایسے اہم وقت پر انجام پایا جب دونوں مشترکہ معاشی ترقی اور قومی سلامتی کےمفادات کے فروغ پر مبنی شراکت داری کے تعلقات کو مزید مضبوط کرنے کیلئے کوشاں ہیں۔ امریکہ ایسی نئی شراکت داریاں قائم کرنے ، جدت کو فروغ دینےاور سفارتکاری کے ایک نئے باب کی تشکیل میں مصروف عمل ہے
اپنے دورہ پاکستان کے دوران جان مارک پومر شائم نے ڈائریکٹر جنرل ملٹری آپریشنز میجر جنرل کاشف عبداللہ، ڈائریکٹر جنرل ملٹری انٹیلی جنس میجر جنرل واجد عزیز خان، وفاقی وزیر برائے آئی ٹی و ٹیلی کمیونی کیشن شزا خواجہ، وفاقی وزیر داخلہ محسن نقوی، وفاقی وزیر خزانہ محمد اورنگزیب اور وزیر پیٹرولیم علی پرویز ملک سے ملاقاتیں کیں۔ انہوں نے کاروباری شخصیات اور امریکی تبادلہ پروگراموں کے سابق شرکاء کے ساتھ بھی تبادلہ خیال کیا
اسلام آباد میں نائب معاون وزیر ِ خارجہ انڈس آرٹیفیشل ویک کی افتتاحی تقریب میں شریک ہوئے ، جہاں انہوں نے پاکستان کے آئی ٹی اور ڈیجیٹل شعبے میں شراکت داری کی توسیع کے ضمن میں امریکی مفادات کی حمایت کی اور امریکہ کی کمپنیوں کو کاروبار کے لیے مساوی مسابقتی ماحول کی فراہمی کی وکالت کی کا اظہار کیا ۔ پاکستانی حکام کے ساتھ ملاقاتوں میں پومر شائم کی بات چیت کا محور پاک-امریکہ شراکت داری اوردوطرفہ تجارت و سرمایہ کاری کو فروغ دینا رہا ۔ ان ملاقاتوں میں اختراع، مصنوعی ذہانت، انفارمیشن ٹیکنالوجی ، توانائی، نایاب معدنیات اور کان کُنی کے شعبوں میں تعاون کی اہمیت کو خصوصی طور پر زور دیا گیا۔
نائب معاون وزیر خارجہ پومر شائم نے آئی ایم ایف پروگرام کے تحت جاری پاکستان کی معاشی اصلاحات کو سراہتے ہوئے قابلِ پیش گوئی اور شفاف سرمایہ کاری کا ماحول یقینی بنانے کیلئے جاری کوششوں کی حوصلہ افزائی کی۔ انھوں نے نجی شعبے کی قیادت میں معاشی ترقی کو مہمیز دینے کی غرض سے اصلاحات کے نفاذ کیلئے پاکستان کی کوششوں کا بھی خیر مقدم کیا۔
متذکرہ بالا سرکاری ملاقاتوں کے علاوہ ، نائب معاون وزیرِ خارجہ پومر شائم نے لاہور میں منعقدہ بسنت میلے میں بھی شرکت کی اور پاکستان کے شاہکار قومی ورثے اور پاکستانیوں کے جوش و خروش سے لطف اندوز ہوئے۔ انہوں نے پنجاب کی سینئر وزیر مریم اورنگزیب سے ملاقات کی اور صوبےمیں امریکی تجارتی سرگرمیوں کو وسعت دینے اور امریکہ میں پاکستانی سرمایہ کاری بڑھانے جیسی مشترکہ ترجیحات پر تبالہ خیال کیا۔ انہوں نے یو ایس ایجوکیشنل فاؤنڈیشن اِن پاکستان کی نئی عمارت کا بھی دورہ کیا جہاں وہ امریکی تبادلہ پروگراموں کے سابق طالبعلموں سے ملے۔
