ISLAMABAD: US Envoy Donald Blome paid a courtesy call on PM Shehbaz Sharif here on Friday (15th March, 2024) and discussed matters of mutual interest.
Felicitating Shehbaz Sharif on his re-election as Premier, Ambassador Donald Blome said that the United States considered Pakistan an important partner and hoped to work with the government in order to build stronger ties between the two countries.
PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction on the present state of Pak-US terms. He emphasized the need to maintain the positive momentum by regularly convening existing dialogue mechanisms, focused on trade, investment, energy, health, defense, education, agriculture and climate change.
He said that his govt would focus on macro-economic reforms to stabilize the economy and attract foreign investment. In this regard, PM also highlighted the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) that has been established to fast-track foreign investments in priority sectors.
Ambassador Donald Blome and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed a number of issues of bilateral and regional significance, including the situation in Gaza and the Red Sea, developments in Afghanistan, the case of incarcerated Dr Aafia Siddiqui who is serving an 86-year sentence in USA.
