ANKARA: After the killing of 40,000 people (since its commencement of insurgency against Türkiye), the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (KPP) on 12th May has announced that it was disbanding and disarming (without getting a separate country they struggled for).
It may be recalled that in the month of Feb, 2025 KPP’s jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan had asked his Syrian-backed group to lay down arms, a move hailed by Tayyip Erdoğan President of the Republic of Türkiye. Kurds (20% of Turkey’s population) initially wanted to found a country of their own. But presently they are focusing to get more autonomy.
