27 dead, 61 injured in suicide bombing at Quetta Railway Station, BLA claims responsibility

QUETTA: A suicide bomb attack carried out by Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) at the Railway Station Booking Office here 9am on Saturday (9th November, 2024) claimed 27 lives (of civilians as well as personnel of LEAs).

The suicide bomber detonated 10 kgs of explosive material. His remains have been sent to a lab in order to figure out his identity alongwith NADRA. Authorities have appealed the citoyens to donate blood for those 62 wounded men and women (few gravely), who are being provided treatment at Civil and CMH here.

Head Constables Ghulam Rasool Jamali and Bhoral Khan of Railway Police also got injured in the blast. Relatives of the passengers can obtain information by dialling 081-9201214 and Pakistan railways inquiry number 117.

The level of security generally is not satisfactory, moreover the suicide bomber disguised as a passenger was carrying luggage with him, which made detection almost impossible. The train service recommenced after a suspension of 6 weeks and Jaffar Express was about to leave the platform for Peshawar.

It is pertinent to mention here that train services between Quetta and Peshawar remained suspended as BLA had blown-up the Kolpur – Mach bridge on 26th August, 2024 (observing Akbar Bugti’s death anniversary).
