Afghan Taliban release US Navy Veteran

KABUL:  In exchange for Bashir Noorzai (who was detained in US back in 2005 on suspicion of smuggling heroin), Afghan Taliban released Mark Frerichs, an American navy veteran who was abducted  in Afghanistan in 2020.

Commenting on the exchange that took place at the airport here, Afghan FM stated that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was ready of solve problems by negotiation with all. It is pertinent to mention here that US Navy engineer Mark Frerichs, (who hails from Lombard, Illinois) had worked for some ten year on projects in Afghanistan before he was taken hostage.

It may be recalled that earlier, in the month of June 2022, US had released Assadullah Haroon, who remained incarcerated for a decade and a half in Guantanamo Bay jail, sans any charge. Honey trader Haroon was accused of having links to Al-Qaeda.
