YAZD (Iran): An over-speeding bus arranged by a tour operator, carrying 53 Pakistani zaireen (including 10 women) for Arbaeen, from Larkana, Ghotki, Kashmore and other cities of Sindh, crashed into a school here due to brake failure, claiming 35 lives on Wednesday (21st August, 2024) night.
Emergency has been imposed in Yazd hospitals. Fifteen pilgrims, who got injured in this accident, are being provided medical treatment at nearby facilities. President of Pakistan has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate transportation of bodies back to their relevant towns and villages in the Province of Sindh and make sure that wounded voyagers get best possible treatment. PM had issued directions to the diplomatic mission in Iran to provide all assistance to the affected families.
Pakistani Envoy to Tehran Mudassir Tipu took to the Twitter (X) to inform about maximum facilitation and medical treatment being provided: “In pursuit of religious journey, 28 Pakistani Zaireen laid down their lives last night in Yazd city in bus accident. Another 23 injured. I have no words to express grief but I can assure that I will do my very best for repatriation of those who passed away…
“Embassy officials have already left for Yazd, almost 700km away from embassy, this morning. An officer in Zahedan is overseeing emergency arrangements.“ Ambassador Mudassir Tipu further informed that he was in liaison with the Iranian government and the office of Mayor of Yazd.

Iran’s Envoy to Islamabad Reza Amiri Moghadam Tweeted (Xed): “I am extremely dejected to hear about the sad news of a bus crash carrying the Pakistani pilgrims in the Yazd province of Iran leading to the death of 28 Pakistani brothers and sisters. May God Almighty bless the soul of the deceased. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Pakistan especially those families who lost loved ones.
“I wish for the safe and speedy recovery of the injured. I am in constant contact with the relevant authorities in Iran. In a telephone talk with the relevant Iranian authorities, I followed up the situation of the injured and insisted for the speedy supply of the necessary services to the injured including health care, return of the corps etc.”
