ISLAMABAD: Former PM Imran Khan (IK) and former FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday (30th of Jan, 2024) have been sentenced to ten years in jail in the cipher case that was heard by Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain of a special court formed under the Official Secrets Act.
It may be recalled that both IK and Qureshi refused to record their statements under section 342 saying that they would not do that in the absence of their advocates.
Since their lawyers perpetually failed to appear during the hearings, court provided state defense counsel.
Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain has verbally announced the verdict in Adiala jail in the presence of the accused a few days before the General Polls scheduled to be held on 8th of February, 2024.
PTI lawyers, when contacted by NPTV, said that provided they receive the copy of the order today, they will appeal in the High Court seeking the cancellation of the punishment.
