COVID-19: Govt. seals 11 UCs of Karachi’s District East

KARACHI: Deputy Commissioner East has ordered sealing of 11 Union Councils after 134 people tested positive and patients expired here. 

From midnight (12th April, 2020) citizens will not be allowed to enter or exit the following 11 UCs (except for buying food and medicines). The area could be sealed for seven to eleven days.

According to notification: “Pursuance to the recent confirmed reports of individuals infected with novel virus (Covid-19) residing in US-6 Gilani Railways, UC-7 Dalmia, UC-8 Jamali Colony, UC-9 Gulshan II, UC-10 Pehalwan Goth, UC-12 Gulzar-e-Hijri, UC-13 Safora, UC-14 Faisal Cantt, UC-2 Manzoor Colony, UC-9, Jacob Lines and UC-10 Jamshaid Quarters Karachi.

“The entire areas falling in these localities are hereby sealed forthwith exercise of powers conferred under Sindh Epidemic Disease Act (2014), in larger public interest and to prevent widespread outbreak of novel corona virus (Covid-19). Moreover, Karachi Police and Rangers are requested to cordon off above areas to ensure public safety.”

Notification of Sealing

CM CopyChief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah took to the Twitter maintaining: “It’s extremely alarming that there has been a record rise in new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Sindh.”

Noting that 20% of Coronavirus tests conducted in Sindh came out positive (in the last 24 hours), CM said that was greater than the world average at the moment.  According to CM, in the last 24 hours 531 tests were conducted in Sindh out of them 104 turned out to be positive.

Holding that the alarming augmentation in the cases was due to leniency, CM stated that the situation was better when lockdown was strictly imposed. He told that presently 919 patients were under treatment all over Sindh while 371 people were discharged after complete recovery.

Provincial Health Dept has informed that  87 of the 104 new cases (all locally transmitted) were reported from Karachi. Thirteen cases of locally transmission were reported from Hyderabad, and one in Sanghar. In the last 24 hours three people expired in the Metropolis while thirteen had recovered completely in Sindh.Chairman District EastChairman DMC East Moid Anwar told that the sealed area harbored a population of 700,000 while 200 houses had been pinpointed where the inhabitants tested positive.
