Govt approves Rs. 60 B to carry out Op. Azm-e-Istehkam

Militants

KARACHI: An additional amount of Rs. 60 billion has been approved by the govt on Thursday (22nd August, 2024) to facilitate Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.

Rs. 20 billion would be released immediately to equip security forces fighting against militants.

DG ISPR Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Ch while talking to the journalists at a Presser held on 22nd of July, 2024 said that a massive/illegal political mafia in Pakistan was attempting to sabotage the Azm-e-Istehkam operation.

He informed that during the current year 112 IBOs were carried out per day against terrorists and their facilitators.

DG ISPR, further maintained that Azm-e-Istehkam was not a military operation but a campaign through national consensus, “aimed at fostering economic growth and stability”.

Earlier, PM Shehbaz Sharif, maintaining that vision for enduring stability termed as Azm-e-Istehkam, was being misunderstood, attempted to decipher it.

PM held that instead of a large scale military operation, only the ongoing IBOs would be intensified under the banner of Azm-e-Istehkam.

Following approval of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam by the incumbent government, JUI-F and PTI proclaimed that military operation was not the remedy to the problems.

A statement was released on 23rd June, 2024 by the two political entities after a rendezvous between JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman and PTI’s Asad Qaisar here.

PTI and JUI-F, manifesting concern over KP’s worsening law and order situation, focused on the importance of political parities in achieving peace and stability in the province.

PM’s Office, pointing towards re-energizing the Operation Azm-e-Istehkam has stated on 22nd June, 2024 that it would integrate and synergize multiple lines of efforts to combat the menaces of extremism and terrorism in a comprehensive and decisive manner.

Central Apex Committee on the National Action Plan (NAP), chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has re-launched the Operation Azm-i-Istehkam, with the consensus of all stakeholders, including the provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

It is pertinent to mention here that following the APS (Peshawar) attack the 20-point NAP for countering terrorism and extremism had been chalked out by the National Counter Terrorism Authority in consultation with stakeholders and approved on 24th of December, 2014, by the Parliament.

Relaunched Operation Azm-e-Istehkam campaign will not only handle the state of affairs of internal security but will attempt to contain terrorists based in Afghanistan.
