JUI-F and PTI oppose Operation Azm-e-Istehkam

ISLAMABAD: Following approval of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam by the incumbent government, JUI-F and PTI proclaimed that military operation was not the remedy to the problems.

A statement was released on Sunday (23rd June, 2024) by the two political entities after a rendezvous between JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman and PTI’s Asad Qaisar here on Saturday.

PTI and JUI-F, manifesting concern over KP’s worsening law and order situation, focused on the importance of political parities in achieving peace and stability in the province.

PM’s Office, pointing towards re-energizing the Operation Azm-e-Istehkam has stated on Saturday (22nd June, 2024) that it would integrate and synergize multiple lines of efforts to combat the menaces of extremism and terrorism in a comprehensive and decisive manner.

Central Apex Committee on the National Action Plan (NAP), chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has re-launched the Operation Azm-i-Istehkam, with the consensus of all stakeholders, including the provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

It is pertinent to mention here that following the APS (Peshawar) attack the 20-point NAP for countering terrorism and extremism had been chalked out by the National Counter Terrorism Authority in consultation with stakeholders and approved on 24th of December, 2014, by the Parliament.

Relaunched Operation Azm-e-Istehkam campaign will not only handle the state of affairs of internal security but will attempt to contain terrorists based in Afghanistan.

UNSC has been asked by Pakistan to take decisive action against terrorists’ hideouts in Afghanistan.

Munir Akram, Pakistan’s permanent Envoy to UN, highlighted the threat of permitting Afghanistan-based terrorists to continue their activities in the region freely.

A few days ago Taliban authorities (who had not been included in the first round and then themselves refused to join the second round of talks) are willing to be part of the third round of UN-hosted dialogue on Afghanistan in Doha (scheduled to take place from 30th June till 1st day of July, 2024).
