WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump, who had not ruled out utilizing military force to get Greenland, believes its annexation will bolster national security in the Arctic region.
In a heated 45-minute telephonic conversation with Trump last week Danish PM Mette Frederiksen made it clear that the island was not for sale. Greenland’s PM Mute Egede stated that use of the territory’s land was Greenland’s business! It may recalled that Trump floated the idea of buying the mineral-rich, world’s largest island, in his first term as president in 2019.

Undaunted by the PMs’ remarks, Donald Trump, while talking to journalists in the Press room onboard Air Force One on Saturday (25th Jan, 2025) said he thought that US was going to have Greenland: “I don’t really know what claim Denmark has to it, but it would be a very unfriendly act if they didn’t allow that to happen because it’s for the protection of the free world.“
Maintaining that US control of Greenland was an absolute necessity for international security, President Donald Trump claimed that the fifty-seven thousand Greenlanders wanted to be with the United States of America. It is pertinent to mention though the Island is under Danish control for the last three centuries, US with bases and troops in it can take Greenland’s control.
