RABAT: Illegal Pakistani immigrants, who survived the recent boat tragedy had informed the 4-member investigating team from Islamabad that while travelling towards Spain, human traffickers kept the boat stranded for days and demanded money.
Survivors told, those who on the overcrowded could not pay were beaten with hammers and thrown into the sea. Many others died due to violence, starvation and extreme weather. According to them the boat was under the control of an international human trafficking ring, involving human traffickers from Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco.
The names of those Pakistanis who lost their lives in the sea this month are: Muddassir Hussain, Waseem Khalid, Muhammad Khaliq, Abdul Ghaffar, Gul Shameer, Tanveer Ahmed, Syed Muhammad Abbas Kazmi, Ghulam Mustafa, Syed Badar Mohy ud din, Imran Iqbal, Shoaib Zafar, Ali Hassan, Syed Mehtab Ul Hassan, Uzair Basharat, Mohammad Asif, Mujahid Ali, Amir Ali, Mohammad Umar Farooqie, Bilawal Iqbal, Arsalan, Irfan Ahmad.
It may be recalled that 44 Pakistani illegal immigrants died when their boat carrying 86 people capsized after departing from Mauritania on 2nd Jan, 2025 heading towards Spain. It is pertinent to mention here that during 2024 thirty illegal immigrants died per day trying to go to Spain from West Africa. Bewildered by the fact that West African migration route had seen a surge of 154% augmentation, PM Pedro Sanchez of Spain repeatedly visited West Africa aiming to curb the menace.
