Imambargah attacked in Iran, 15 killed

SHIRAZ: At least 15 people were killed in an attack on a Shia Muslim shrine (Shah Cheragh mausoleum) in the Iranian city of Shiraz on Wednesday (26th Oct, 2022).

The local police chief said there had been a single attacker, who had been arrested. Islamic State Group has claimed the responsibility. The gunman opened fire indiscriminately on worshipers, killing 15 and injuring 40.

Condemning the attack Irani President Ebrahim Raisi said there would be a severe response. Raisi said that the enemies of Iran attempted to divide the united ranks of the nation by means of terror.

Meanwhile, the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres held that such acts targeting religious sites were particularly heinous.
