Israel-Lebanon to stop fighting for 60 days

BEIRUT: Following his dialogue on Wednesday (30th October, 2024) with Amos Hochstein US Ambassador for Middle East, the Caretaker PM of Lebanon Najib Mikati told the Media that he was cautiously optimistic apropos an initial sixty-day ceasefire with Israel.

Talking to Media about his conversation with Amos Hochstein, who is scheduled to talk to the decision makers in Israel on Thursday (31st October, 2024), Mikati informed that the US Envoy had suggested that an agreement could be reached before 5th November, 2024.

Lebanese PM said that they were going everything they could and they should remain optimistic about ceasefire in the coming hours or days.

While Hezbollah claims inflicting huge losses to the attackers, Israeli Military Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari has claimed on 5th Oct, 2024 that they had destroyed 2000 targets and neutralized 440 Hezbollah members (including 30 commanders) in ground combat or from the air, in Lebanon.

It is pertinent to mention there that Israel’s extensive bombing campaign in Lebanon had at times targeted densely populated areas, leaving more than 1,400 people dead and a million displaced. Meanwhile, IDF said that Lebanon had launched 130 missiles on 5th October, 2024.

It may be recalled that President Joe Biden has said that he was thinking of other alternatives, for instance, to strikes on Iran’s oil assets.
