Italian Envoy Marilina Armellin visits Karachi

KARACHI: The Italian Envoy to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin, visited the Port City – the economic/ financial capital of the country, hub of maritime transport/logistics in the area of the Indian Sub-Continent and the Persian Gulf.

Accompanied by Danilo Giurdanella, the Italian Consul General in the Metropolis, H.E. Marilina Armellin paid her respects to the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah by laying a flower wreath at the leader’s mazaar on Sunday (5th May, 2024) morning.

Taking to the X (Twitter) Danilo Giurdanella stated: “Today with the Italian Ambassador I paid my respects at Mazar-e-Quaid-e-Azam, the mausoleum built for Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. May his values and ideas be preserved for future generations of Pakistan”.

Ambassador Armellin called on Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah.

With institutional interlocutors, the commitment to strengthen the already consolidated bilateral relations in every sector of cooperation; economic, commercial, cultural, linguistic, inter-university and healthcare, was reiterated.

In particular, the collaboration between the Gaslinihospital in Genoa and the National Institute for Child Health in Karachi for pediatric training and inter-university cooperation with the Universities of Udine, Florence, La Sapienza and LUISS were mentioned.

Governor SBP Jamil Ahmed, informed the diplomat apropos country’s economy, development and investment opportunities for Italian entrepreneurs during her visit to the Central Bank.

Possibilities for cooperation in the maritime and port sector were discussed with Chairman Karachi Port Trust Syed Syedain Raza Zaidi, and Rear Admiral Rizwan Ahmed.

The heritage sites of Flag Staff House and Mohatta Palace were also visited by Lady Ambassador.

While in Sindh, Ambassador Armellin grasped at the opportunity of visiting the world’s largest necropolis Makli and Chowkandi as well as the archaeological site of Bhanbore, where Italy is engaged with the provincial government by means of it’s Archaeological team.

A visit to Shahjahan Mosque in Thatta – a reminiscent of Mughal architecture built in the 17th century – was also organized by the Provincial Minister of Culture, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, who was present with the Italian delegation.

Ambassador Armellin interacted with diverse cross section of the society,which included members of the Italian Development Committee as well as other reputable business houses doing business with Italy.

She also met the athletes of Special Olympics and the members of the Women Entrepreneur Network to exchange ideas on enhancing bilateral engagement between similar counterparts in Italy.
