Karachi: Security agencies nab varsity professor, niece over ‘Daesh links’

KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies on Monday arrested five people including a university professor and his niece for their alleged links to the terror group Islamic State (Daesh) in Karachi.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh, on credible information by intelligence agencies, conducted an operation in Karachi’s East district and arrested a professor at an engineering university of Lahore, his niece, and three other suspects, said a police official.

Details of the arrested were not disclosed as further investigation was under way.

According to the official, the suspects were planning to carry out targeted attacks in the Metropolis using explosives fitted on unmanned drones.
