QUETTA: Police resorted to lathi-charging and lobbing aansoo-gas shells at the supporters of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) here on Thursday (11th July, 2024) when they brought out a rally for the recovery of missing students.

QUETTA: Before marching towards the Red Zone to stage a sit-in Central Organizer of BYC, Dr. Mahrang Baloch took to the Twitter (X) to warn the government if they failed to release the men and women, they would march towards the Red Zone and stage an indefinite sit-in there.

It may be recalled that BYC activists had been staging a sit-in at Sariab area against the enlevement of Zaheer Baloch and others for a week. But when, after marching on the roads of Quetta, the demonstrators headed towards the Red Zone on Thursday to stage a sit-in there, the clashes took place.
Police tried to restrain the marchers from entering the red zone, but they attacked and damaged 12 police vehicles. During skirmishes sound of gun shots were heard, 12 people (including six cops) got wounded. Twenty-seven demonstrators (including 6 women) were taken into custody and taken to an undisclosed place.
Dr. Mahrang Baloch told the Media: “The participants of the rally were attacked, baton-charged and fired upon, resulting in severe injuries to protesters. Two of the injured are in critical condition at the Civil Hospital’s trauma center.”
