KARACHI: Mader-e-Millat (Mother of the Nation) Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah’s birth anniversary was celebrated on Monday (31st of July, 2023).

Sister of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, was born in 1893.

Most of the historians believe that she was born in a rented house Wazir Mansion in Kharadar in (previously) Lyari area of the Port City. 

She graduated from Dr. Ahmed Dental College of the University of Calcutta in 1923 and went on to practice as a dental doctor in Mumbai.

After the death of the Quaid’s wife, she shunned her practice and dedicated her life to support Jinnah’s mission. 

She worked side by side with her brother and successfully convinced the women of the Sub-Continent to converge on one platform facilitating the transformation of the Muslim’s dream of getting a separate nation into reality.

In 1947 she formed the Women’s Relief Committee, which ultimately metamorphosed into  APWA.

People from different walks of life, while talking to Newspakistan.tv, paid glowing tribute to Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah who is still revered for effectively playing a role in empowering the women of Pakistan.

Endeavoring to empower them she held that no nation could prosper unless its female populace endeavors side-by-side its male citoyens. 

It is pertinent to mention here that when she was in her 70s Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah stood against dictatorship and spearheaded a campaign aimed at revival of democracy.

Speaking to Newspakistan.tv many women, pointing towards deteriorating condition of female-folk in today’s patriarchal Pakistan, stated that Mader-e-Millat had set an example for the ladies of Pakistan to fight for their rights.

Noticing that the new generation was not aware of the struggle of Muslim leaders like Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, many opined that they must be edified about them. Mader-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah died in mysterious circumstances on 9th July 1967 and was buried in the premises of the mausoleum of her brother Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
